School Pictures

So, we had a rough Monday. As I was getting the kids ready for school, Becca remembered she had to go a bit early for cybercore. 9 out of 10 times, my kids look great when they leave the house. I am not saying that is how they come home. Kim and I have joked that we are going to take a picture of the kids before they leave and pin it to them so people can tell we actually take care of them, they are not rag-a-muffins. Well, Monday was one of the days the kids were not looking picture worthy. So they leave for school, I started in with a migrain and took some sample medicine that did not help, instead made me feel like crap. Kim called and we were doing the normal whining about laundry when she mentioned it was picture day. Oh, no. See, the guy in charge of picture day does all the kids then give the pics to my MIL. He has done this since Becca was 3 or 4. It is so fun to see the kids grow up in pictures. We keep them in the same frame so we flip back through them. We do them 2 times a year. The regular school pics and the spring pics. We have only missed one of the spring pics in all that time. So I freaked out.
1. I felt horrible and B. the kids didn't look their best. (Did anyone catch my tribute to the best sitcom ever, Mad about you?) I was mostly worried about Annie, see she is Miss Obstanate, Independant, rebelous (the list can go on) kid ever. Her clothes were pretty scary. Here is a picture to show you.

Now you say, that is not too bad, but the pic does not do her justice. Plus I think her leggings are really pj pants. And none of the colors match. I was not in a mood to fight her that morning. Sometimes, the spring pics show all of their body. So I got Mia dressed in a cute dress with pink tights (soon found out that was a mistake) and Jason in one of his "sweater bests" and when annie came home I changed her and did her hair a bit better, just braided it and put a head band in and we headed over to the school. I asked to see her pic, and sure enough, it didn't do her justice. So we retook hers, first shot and she was done. Jason, first shot and he was done, he is also known as Mr. Smiles, then on to Mia, that was a disaster. She just screamed. She wanted nothing to do with it. So I walked around the school, Cass was eating lunch so I made her come and do a retake. She had a goofy look on her face. Then she took A and J outside to recess with her. We tried Mia again, no luck, just screams. I looked at James pic, he was super cute, not the shirt I would have picked for pictures, but he was cute. Becca had not done hers yet. She just got a cute hair cut and she is stuck with a pony tail for pics, but oh well. Then back to Mia. She hated it. I tried fruit snacks, after they were gone, she was still mad. We got her happy with some goldfish the picture lady had, but then in all the pictures she had food in her mouth. Then she kept making these cute eye squishy face, which was cute but not for a pic. She just looked like she was in pain. After that she would pull her dress up, or open her legs so you could see her diaper through her tights and it was a full body shot for her. Finally, a the other kid taking pictures came and got her to kind of smile in a modest pose so I took it. It took 1 hour for these stupid pics. Wow, that was a long story. Sorry. In the end, the Bell photographers saved the day. They were wonderful to mess around with Amelia for 45 mins. They were great.

I'm thinking next time you want Mia's picture done, just bring some frosting! She looks like she's having a great time in that picture--and what a smile!

If have found that moments like that make for great memories when they get older! They themselves love to hear the story of how they acted and have a hard time believing it! I have some very interesting pictures of my kids.
I would hope that teachers understand how hard our children play at school and understand that they are taken care of and not ragamuffins! Sometimes I don't see one of my daughters (own) hair dos before they walk out the door or after they get on the bus, they do whatever they want and it is usually a scary ratty mess! But then again, as long as it is not hurting anyone, right!?
